YOUR RIGHTS DURING A MISCARRIAGE
-You have the right to delay your decision for treatment (dilation and curettage, home miscarriage, medicated home miscarriage), and to go home and decide what is best for you.
-You have the right to decide how you’d like to pass your baby (dilation and curettage, home miscarriage, medicated home miscarriage).
-You have the right to an ultrasound to confirm that your child no longer has a heartbeat, and to request the images.
-You have the right to lab work after a miscarriage to ensure that the process has resolved.
-You have the right to a support person to be with you throughout the entire process.
-You have the right to find a new doctor or request different staff members if you are not receiving the care you need.
-You have the right to grieve.
-You have the right to baptize your baby.
-You (likely) have the right to temporary leave from your work, and you have a right to a medical note from your doctor stating your needs to your employer.
-You have the right to professional therapy.
-You have the right to share your experience if you would find that helpful.
-You have the rights to the remains of your baby if he or she is surgically removed. There are different requirements for release of remains by state, so be sure to discuss with your doctor and with the surgical staff before your procedure.
-You have the right to be treated with dignity.
-You have the right to bury your baby, buy a casket, and have a funeral.
-You have the right to hold your baby as long as you’d like.
-You have the right to pain relief, regardless of which method you choose to pass your child.
